Dear Medical Student,
Welcome to TheMedicalStudent.com.
My name is Marc Crutchley and I am a doctor working in the UK. This new website
has been created especially for medical
students. Having qualified just over a year ago, the memories of my
student experience are still fresh in my mind. The purpose of this site is to
give those of you still studying for exams and preparing to become a
doctor, a helping hand and
nudge in the right direction. I plan to do this by sharing the
knowledge I gained during my years as a student and now as a doctor.
I honestly believe that a
large proportion of what you read and are taught when studying medicine is
unnecessary. Trying to
learn and memorise numerous random facts can over
complicate your revision and clutter your mind. I know this because I fell into the same trap,
having brought book after book and spending
countless hours trying to remember the most obscure facts only to
realise
when it comes to real life, i.e. your exams and eventually practising
medicine, it is the basics that really count. I decided long ago that I wanted to teach
others medicine how I, due to my own experiences, believe it is best taught
- by cutting out all the unnecessary details, all the waffle, and focusing on the information that is important,
I believe for you to pass your exams and
become a good doctor.
You are probably thinking,
"Who the hell is this guy?" Well I am just someone who has been through
exactly what you all are going through, has come out the other side and
learnt what is important along the way. I can remember buying and reading
countless books and going to lecture after lecture whilst all
the time thinking how much time I was wasting. I did all this because I
was scared, scared to miss out on any random bit of knowledge that might
just pop up.
I always wished I could stumble upon a book that
would stop wasting my time and tell me everything I needed without the
extra waffle. Unfortunately I did not. It is not in publishing houses
best interests to sell you just one book when they can sell you ten. So I decided to write my own!
I have always been very interested
in teaching, how people learn, and how it can be done more efficiently. With
this in mind, coupled with my own experiences as a student and now a
junior doctor, I have written a book and designed a set of lectures,
which I believe to be an essential learning tool for any medical
student.
This website not only
offers you the chance to purchase my book but also to view the lectures
which I deliver on a regular basis to current medical students. Please
spend just a small amount of time reading over the
